Mina Kawashy, born in 1962 in Nanterre, France, and of Franco-Moroccan descent from Ain Sfa, a small village in the Oujda region of Oriental, is a photographer with a profound passion for capturing the essence of life through black and white portraits.
Being the fifth of eleven siblings, Mina's upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for family and heritage. Her current and future projects revolve around immortalizing the faces of elderly individuals, whose weathered features tell stories of a lifetime. To Mina, these faces represent not just individuals but also a collective heritage that should be cherished and preserved. As time passes, these faces fade away, and Mina sees it as her duty to safeguard their stories, which are intertwined with our own.
Mina aspires to share her perspective by exhibiting her work in Morocco, her homeland, and hopes to inspire young people to connect with the elderly, to listen to their narratives, and to embrace their own cultural identities. Additionally, she remains committed to humanitarian efforts, participating in medical missions twice a year as a means of giving back to her community.
Through her lens, Mina Kawashy captures more than just images; she preserves memories, identities, and legacies, leaving an indelible mark on both her subjects and her audience.
