Finding yourself takes time. It is often difficult emotional experiences, which are hard and painful in the moment that ultimately make you stronger and more resilient. They force you confront yourself in the most raw and honest way, they force you to reinvent yoursef. And sometimes you have to go through an experience several times before you learn your lesson. Certain experiences or memories may also be reinterpreted in hindsight. This is reflected in this multi-layered photographic work; you may feel overwhelmed, like you're underwater and can't breathe - or like your head is going to explode - you may be left with scars, but in the end, coming out on the other side, something wonderful comes out of it and you find yourself closer to your true self than ever before, which is a beautiful thing.
Similarly, these original self-portraits and perceived soulscapes were deliberately damaged and sabotaged; kept under water, frozen, set on fire, exposed to corrosive salt...and it only makes the pictures more beautiful and intriguing instead of destroying them completely.
